A Different Drum!

Fourth Class enjoyed a drum workshop on Friday, June 12th, organised by Colm and Sinead, who were good enough to come in on their own time. The class of 27 pupils was taken in two different sessions, allowing every pupil to have their own drum.

The drums were mostly African, made from goat-skin and cow-skin. Sinead has travelled to Egypt and Ghana in search of rhythm, and managed to inspire D7Et with her passion for percussion. There were also some shakers, woodblocks and bells to add to the orchestra.

  

As you can see from the pictures, enjoyment was central to the learning experience. Everyone was free to find their own beat, while still  harmonising with the general syncopated rhythm. Some found it a bit hypnotic after a while, and all of us agreed that it was an unusal but effective relaxation method.
